Chapter Ten: Welcome to Paradise
The sun is starting to set behind us as we continue flying east. For the past several hours, it has been nothing but a vast blue ocean beneath us and clear skies above. I look up at Alexander and Pagos who arenât too far ahead. Alexander is the only person I know that can sleep comfortably on a cold rock, so itâs no surprise that heâs sleeping on the back of Pagos as she flies through the air.
Itâs at that time I start to feel the tension in my neck and back, so I lay down on the back of Fotiaâ. The air begins to grow colder as the day grows darker. Itâs not long before everything turns completely dark. The only light I can see comes from the stars that are already showing in the clear night sky. The moon seems to be in hiding for the time being, but I have a feeling that it will be shining soon.
I close my eyes and let my mind wander. All my thoughts are on our destination and for some reason, I canât stop wondering what it will be like. âWhat is this place that has been hidden from mankind since the dawn of time itself? Who are these people that can die but never do? How can Fotiaâ and Pagos know the way if theyâve never been there before?â
I hear a distant voice calling my name from the darkness and I quickly sit up to look around. âAlexander?â âDia, come back to me,â the voice whispers. I canât see a thing other than Fotiaâs wings flapping up and down. I look for Alexander and Pagos, but theyâre nowhere to be found. âDia, you and I are meant to be together. Come back to me.â A chill sends goosebumps all over me and somehow, I recognize the voice in the distance. Itâs the black ghost. âWhat do you want with me?â I ask in a fearful voice. âIâm not your sister. Please, just leave me alone!â
Suddenly, I feel a forceful wind from above and a long arm with a pale white hand reaches down and grabs ahold of me. I look up as the hand clutches my wrist and see the black ghost riding on the back of Pagos. âLet go of me! Alexander, wake up! Let go of me!â I fight to free myself from his grip by kicking at the air and digging my fingernails into his cold clammy pale white skin. âFotiaâ, help me!â
Suddenly Iâm free of his grip and I look down to see that Fotiaâ has flown on without me. I start falling into the darkness below and screaming for help. âOh, please let this be a dream.â I keep falling, trying to look around for some sign that Iâm dreaming, but everything is too real. âThis isnât a dream.â Before long, I can see the moonâs reflection on the oceanâs surface and I only have a matter of seconds before Iâm splattered against it.
